His previous game was Pathema and he spent seven months there.

His first stay in the game happened several years ago, right before the Battle of Hoth in his timeline. He was only there a few weeks before he was sent back home, and then came back at his current canonpoint. By now he knows that it's possible to travel to many different places, sometimes multiple times, and still manage to return home again.

Life on the island of Pathema required some quick adjustment, as each citizen wore a collar that gradually tightened over the course of two weeks, until asphyxiation occurred. The only way to loosen one's collar again was sex, as decreed by the god Eros. Though Luke angrily protested at first, he found no way to resist and eventually had to go along with it.

While on the island he made many new friends, even if they were under strained circumstances. Some of these friends were also 'collar partners', which was a mutual way of keeping each others' collars loosened. Luke couldn't help but develop feelings for a few of them at once which wound up causing some issues, especially when he found out two of them were close friends. It was difficult for him to keep his feelings in check while he had close relations with multiple people and for him it wound up being one of the most frustrating things about living on Pathema.

Among his platonic encounters was the young version of his old master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was grateful to see Ben again, but he had to carefully navigate their history to keep from revealing all of the horrific things that Ben would someday witness. Though he wasn't aware of it, he also briefly met his mother. Sadly, he never spoke with her again and never realized who she had been.

Eventually Luke was forced together with Matt Murdock by the whims of Eros, but they formed a close bond rather quickly. A short time after, they realized their feelings for each other and began a difficult but loving relationship. It eased Luke's frustrations but it also created new problems. Eros wasn't happy that they were only seeing each other and he tried to force them into "branching out", but it was unsuccessful. Luke even turned down blessings from the gods to keep from being unfaithful to Matt.

It was soon after this that Luke left the island, which might be fortunate as he was beginning to attract a lot of the annoyed god's attention.

Personality: Luke may try to deny that his world revolves around adventure and excitement, but it's very close to being the truth. He always felt held back growing up on Uncle Owen's farm. It was a simple, quiet life that rarely ever changed and that was exactly the opposite of what he wanted. Luke craves the new, the challenging, and the opportunity for growth above all else. He's restless and hates sitting still for more than five seconds. One might even call him impatient but he'll quickly deny that too, tending to be of the defensive sort. His attention span is short and even his temper can be a bit hot, particularly when it comes to dealing with people who he finds too laid back and careless. Luke thinks getting involved in a good cause to be very important and he has little patience for those who wish to idly sit by, especially for selfish reasons. A particularly good example of this is when he told off Han for abandoning the Rebel Alliance right before the Battle of Yavin. He will resort to guilt tripping and even bribery when he feels that someone is being a selfish jerk or isn't pulling their own weight.

Luke was raised in a very harsh and desolate environment. He's extremely brave and resilient and rarely, if ever, crumbles under pressure when he's required to act. The demanding and toiling lifestyle he was brought up into also taught him fierce independence and resourcefulness. His rash decisions often lead him into trouble but giving up simply isn't an option. Life on Tatooine was lacking and lonely at times. There was no government or public services to rely upon and Luke and his family were adept at dealing with life's complications and dangers on their own. He learned to use a blaster when he was only six and killed his first Tusken Raider at eight. He may be an idealistic, naive dreamer but Luke was desensitized to violence and death at a very young age. He isn't easily shaken by such things and has surprisingly tough skin.

Even a life of struggle and strife couldn't make a cynic out of Luke or crush his spirit. He's altruistic and earnest to a fault and easily wears his heart on his sleeve. Luke would probably be embarrassed to know it but his emotions are almost always out on display. It doesn't take a Jedi to know what he's thinking. Still, he rarely has anything to hide and dislikes lying, even when he has to for the greater good. He isn't too shy to voice his opinions and he will often do it loudly.

Luke can be a bit of a daredevil and has a hard time turning down a challenge, sometimes overestimating his own chances or skills. He gets bored when he isn't being tested and he can't stand monotony. He can accept change readily but has a knack for biting off more than he can chew and tends to charge in head-first. Luke is quite sharp and will readily accept responsibility for his actions, and when he's given a moment to think he's often a terrific tactical planner. Not too long ago Luke was impatient and apt to charge in without thinking but he's improved immensely in this area and has gained the wisdom of waiting and listening for the right moment, possibly adjusting his strategy. These days he's often the one holding others back. Luke has more recently developed outstanding leadership qualities and has an unrivaled confidence coupled with his caring nature and unbent determination that encourages others to follow wherever he leads.

On the other hand, Luke also has a stubborn side when it comes to things he wants. He knows that he has a lot to learn and has a lot of room for improvement, but when it comes to the way he thinks things should be it's near impossible to get him to budge on the topic. He wanted to leave Tatooine and accomplish things of worth and, though it happened through unfortunate circumstances, he never stopped fighting for it. As for convictions and beliefs, he will argue the issue until he's blue in the face. However, Luke is an idealist through and through and usually has his head in the clouds. The things he fights for would seem far out of reach to others, but Luke doesn't let that discourage him. It's the people holding him down that are the biggest obstacles in his mind.

In the past Luke struggled with his self-esteem. He spent much of his adolescent years around kids who were older and had more opportunities to do things they wanted to do, and they often picked on him. It took him a long time to figure out that he could do and become whatever he wanted, especially thanks to his best friend, Biggs Darklighter, who encouraged his talents and skills. The long-term effects of their friendship greatly improved his self-confidence but he remained particularly sensitive to negative feedback. He won't always speak out against it and often harbors sour feelings until they build up to unmanageable levels which turn argumentative. When he does speak up he can be rather forceful and even hostile. In his youth Luke even resorted to a fistfight or two when someone went too far. He's learned to manage his reactions better as he'd matured but his frustration at being teased can still sometimes boil over. Even these days Luke has little patience for mean-spirited people.

He can also find reason to become confrontational when his impatience gets the better of him. Though he's learned that waiting and watching for the right moment can be beneficial, Luke still feels anxious when not actively involved in something important. If someone tries to hold him back he can get downright snippy. This particularly becomes a problem when he applies the same logic to others and expects everyone to pitch in and become involved. Luke finds it irresponsible when people refuse to do work for the greater good, although, despite his frustration, he's learned that others must choose their own paths. He might still make a frustrated comment or two or attempt to make them feel badly about their choices.

His tenacity can be attributed to having very rarely gotten his way back home and having to fight for the things he wanted, but it's carried over into adulthood and has probably doubled. However, he's also learned when other more important things must come first. When his plans get in the way of his family and friends he will quickly, albeit sometimes grudgingly, set them aside, as seen when Obi-Wan tried to convince him to go to Alderaan with him. Luke is a fierce fighter, especially for his beliefs and the beliefs of those he cares for. He's incredibly loyal and selfless and will defend a good cause until his dying breath. He's especially loyal to his friends to whom he becomes quickly and easily attached and he would give his life for them without a second thought. Sometimes, though, this gets him into trouble. Luke can be overly defensive of the things he and his friends stand for, often overlooking the things that are truly important to simply get in the last word. He can be loud and even a bit forceful, often letting his frustration take over when things aren't going his way. Luke has the tendency to act first and think later, but when he does think he is very quick to right his wrongs and fix his mistakes. He continues to improve in this area as he becomes wiser and more experienced.

In that way, Luke is understanding and forgiving when he is focused and self-aware. Beneath his stubbornness he is very sweet, incredibly caring, good-natured, and makes friends easily. He also has a good sense of humor and gets along well with those he can joke around with, although if he becomes the butt of a joke it will raise his hackles and he'll become hot-headed and defensive again. He's never hostile or aggressive about it, though. Deep down he knows it's all in good fun and he'll eventually let himself laugh it off, especially if encouraged by others, though he can be sensitive about things and has a hard time just letting things that bother him roll off his back. It's rare for him to hold real grudges but it may take him a short while to forget misgivings, especially when it was at the expense of a friend. Despite his flaws, Luke is definitely the kind of person you'd want fighting on your side.

Since his stay in Pathema, the biggest noticeable difference about Luke is a much more open and comfortable approach to the subject of sex. He used to be about as shy about it as the next person, but over the last few months he was forced into an environment where it was a daily way of life. He'll discuss the topic quite freely and casually, and he probably wouldn't bat an eye if he caught a couple or individual going at it. However, he might respond to the subject of forced sexual situations with more sensitivity and resentfulness than he did before.

Abilities/Skills:
THE FORCE

Luke possesses the ability to use the Force. It's an energy field that exists everywhere, in all things. It gives him various psychic abilities such as precognition, telepathy, empathy, and telekinesis. It requires great focus and calm to use these abilities and Luke has been quite successful in achieving that.

The Force also gives individuals strong in its power great physical strength, speed, reflexes, and stamina, all of which can be attributed to the various abilities granted through the Force. For example, fast reflexes may happen through a user's precognition, being able to sense something before it happens and then reacting quickly. Strength could be achieved through telekinesis to lift heavy objects or jump very long distances.

Because of his ancestry, Luke is especially strong in the Force and, though he's only been working on his skills for a few years, he already has the capabilities of a fully-fledged Jedi Knight which usually takes decades. If he continues his training he will become the most powerful Jedi that ever lived.

With his immense innate power, Luke has been able to learn some rare or lesser-known Jedi skills and has even invented some of his own. For example, he can use telekinesis to Force-fly, or levitate himself, usually used to slow or stop his descent during a fall. He can also control his body in ways that human beings typically can't, like stop his body's functions for a short period of time to make it appear that he's dead, or halt the effects of poison or drugs. Using his ability to influence the minds of others, he can perform extremely convincing illusions like changing his own appearance to the people around him or making others see things that aren't there, even altering small bits of their memory.

There are also simpler, more passive abilities that he's had since the day he was born and wasn't aware of where they came from until he learned he was Force-sensitive. He can often sense where things are, people, inanimate objects, or even the layout of his surroundings, without having to see them. In the past this came in useful when he was working on machines on his uncle's farm. It allows him to understand how something works or where the problem is without having to take a look inside. The Force will also often give him a warning of danger seconds before it's going to happen.

Due to his ability to manipulate organic matter in certain ways, Luke can even perform simple healing, primarily by speeding up the natural healing process. He's also started delving into mental healing, helping others (and even himself) overcome mental disturbances and illnesses.

OTHER SKILLS

Luke was born to fly. When he first learned to pilot a T-16 skyhopper he was a natural and took to it like breathing. Later he specialized in snubfighters but he can fly just about anything. His reflexes are unbelievably fast and he's noted for maneuvers that supposedly no human pilot can manage.

Along with his great piloting skills, Luke is a legendary sharpshooter. He made the "impossible" shot that destroyed the first Death Star and was known for bullseyeing Womprats from his skyhopper back home. He's just as good with hand-held firearms and is proficient with most weaponry from his home world, including heavy artillery, explosives, and has had special training in bladed weapons.

Luke has spent several years as an Alliance commander and general and he's developed many skills that come with it such as battlefield tactics (ground, air, and space), strong leadership, an understanding of politics and diplomacy, survival skills in many different climates, and even some basic field medicine.

Before his time with the Alliance, Luke grew up on a moisture farm. He mainly did work as a mechanic, fixing the droids that worked on the farm as well as his uncle's moisture vaporators. Those skills came in handy later on when he became a pilot and he often used them to perform maintenance on his own fighter. The harsh environment of his own world also forced Luke to grow up very quickly and, though he missed out on a normal childhood, he developed a good general competence and independence.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
STRENGTHS

Courageous, sometimes to a fault

Adaptable/resourceful and level-headed

Kind and gentle

Strong in his beliefs and unending determination

Self-sacrificing for others and important causes

WEAKNESSES

Impatient and reckless

Emotional, often unable to hide how he's feeling

Difficult to manage/stubborn, likes to do things his own way

Easily frustrated with others

Head in the clouds, desires are often unrealistic

Items:

Green-bladed lightsaber

DL-44 blaster pistol

Clothes: Canvas pants, black tank top, brown cloak, boots, belt

As per the FAQ, Luke will also be bringing the cat that he owned in Pathema.

SAMPLES
Network Sample:
[It should surprise no one who knows him, but Luke has already managed to end up somewhere he wasn't supposed to, and the easy-going curiosity in his expression is rather telling as to how much he cares about being in trouble.

He's lying on his back inside a crawl space, but the camera is angled straight at him, so the only indication that he's upside-down is by the way his hair looks like it's standing on-end.]

Has anyone taken a really good look at this place? It's making me nervous. I could reroute this whole system, make it more efficient. Half of these components you don't really need. These things are always built with some regulation agency breathing down everyone's necks.

[He gives a world-weary sigh, and then starts wriggling out of the crawl space with a grunt.]

Sorry... I'm Luke. New here but not surprised. I'd like to appeal to whoever's in charge for a job, or at least something productive to pass the time. [He manages to sit up, hair a bit mussed.] I don't suppose anyone's looking for a Jedi?

Prose/Action Sample: http://adlibbed.dreamwidth.org/7292.html?thread=1405308#cmt1405308

comments

He grew up in a very harsh and challenging environment with both physical and psychological stressors. He's also survived the last three years in a war being hunted down by the best assassins and bounty hunters in the galaxy, not to mention Darth Vader. Being forced into intimacy to survive will be very strange to him but he's dealt with far worse. Luke is rather expert at adapting to unusual situations for survival. He also tends to find ways around things that other people have never thought of.

FIT: What Luke lacks in experience he makes up for in enthusiasm and creativity. He'll be initially uncomfortable but he also tends to fall for people pretty quickly and easily and he's very open with his emotions. Finding his way into someone's bed (or bringing someone to his own) won't be difficult at all. His only hangup is that when he falls for someone, he falls hard. The almost guaranteed romantic feelings will make his stay very confusing and frustrating and several characters might end up with a babby Jedi following them around like a lost puppy. Of course, this is what will make him very fun.
ORIENTATION: Unknown. Luke shows repeated interest in women in movie, comic, and Legends canon but no version of canon ever states his orientation specifically. Mark Hamill says that Luke's sexuality is unspoken and open to interpretation and many fans speculate his close emotional bonds with certain male characters (particularly Biggs Darklighter) as romantic feelings. I say that he's just a little socially sheltered, still very young, and busy with the war and hasn't gotten to experiment much, so he's probably undecided himself.

SAMPLES: Sample one, sample two, sample three

ANYTHING ELSE? While he's extremely strong in the Force, Luke is lacking in training at his current canonpoint. He can sense presences, emotions, and certain very strong thoughts, he occasionally has visions of the near future, and he can levitate small objects. His 'Jedi mind trick' skills are beginner at best but he has succeeded with it on at least one occasion at this point. He can also cushion his falls and augment his lightsaber combat. Otherwise he still has a lot to learn and he isn't capable of doing anything anywhere near game-breaking.

Luke will be arriving with both his father's lightsaber and a DL-44 blaster pistol.

I'd love for Artoo-Detoo to come with him but since he's a borderline playable character (depending on who you ask) and advanced technology, I'm guessing the answer will be 'no'. I thought I'd ask anyway, just in case.

comments

It's an energy field that exists everywhere, in all things. It gives him various psychic abilities such as precognition, telepathy, empathy, and telekinesis. It requires great focus and calm to use these abilities. Because Luke hasn't yet received more extensive training, he has the potential but can't yet grasp most of his abilities.

Due to the ability to manipulate organic matter in certain ways, Luke can even learn to perform simple healing, primarily by speeding up the natural healing process.

Because of his ancestry, Luke is especially strong in the Force. If he's allowed to continue his training he will advance far more quickly than is considered normal. Much later in canon he will become the most powerful Jedi that ever lived.

There are simpler, more passive abilities that he's had since the day he was born and wasn't aware of where they came from until he learned he was Force-sensitive.

LIMITATIONS: While in the library, Luke will be unable to use his telekinesis. He can't levitate objects, grab, squeeze, push, or otherwise put pressure on anything using the Force. The natural reflexes, healing, and overall hardiness that the Force grants will still be present, as well as his passive senses to presences and dangers, telepathy, empathy, and precognition.

He made the "impossible" shot that destroyed the first Death Star and was known for bullseyeing womp rats from his skyhopper back home. He's just as good with hand-held firearms and is proficient with most weaponry from his home world, including heavy artillery and explosives. He has minimal training with bladed weapons but could make do with them.

Luke has spent several years as an Alliance commander and he's developed many skills that come with it such as battlefield tactics (ground, air, and space), strong leadership, a very elementary understanding of politics and diplomacy, survival skills in many different climates, and even some basic field medicine.

Bookmark Description: A long, flat rectangle of brushed durasteel with the Alliance starbird symbol etched into it.

History: Luke's canon history / Luke's AU history

The AU is there in detail but since no one's got time to read that whole fic, I'll sum it up:

Prior to Yavin, everything goes as it does in canon with some added fluff, including a very slow-building romance between Luke and Biggs, though it isn't really explored until later.

At Yavin, Luke and Biggs fly into battle but most of their squadron is wiped out. Wedge's ship is damaged and he has to bail. Han shows up just a minute earlier than he did in canon and he takes care of the TIEs before Biggs can be shot down. Luke destroys the Death Star and they all escape.

The squadron is reformed into a new one with Luke as Rogue Leader, Biggs as Rogue Two, and Wedge as Rogue Three. Luke is promoted to commander with Biggs as his second-in-command.

The following years feature Biggs as a prominent member of the rebellion and one of their best pilots.

He will resort to guilt tripping and even bribing when he feels that someone is being a selfish jerk isn't pulling their own weight.

He's earnest to a fault and easily wears his heart on his sleeve.

Luke is quite sharp and will readily accept responsibility for his actions, and when he's given a moment to think he's often a terrific tactical thinker. Luke is impatient and apt to charge in without thinking but he's improved some in this area since his youth and has gained the wisdom of waiting and listening for the right moment, possibly adjusting his strategy.

The long-term effects greatly improved his self-confidence but he remained particularly sensitive to negative feedback.

Luke finds it irresponsible when people refuse to do work for the greater good. Although, despite his frustration, he's learned that others must choose their own paths.

When his plans get in the way of his family and friends he will quickly, albeit sometimes grudgingly, set them aside.

In other words, Luke is the poster child for "cinnamon roll".

Samples

First Person/Action brackets: http://teleios.dreamwidth.org/505299.html

Third Person/Prose: http://ataraxionlogs.dreamwidth.org/435310.html?thread=40819310#cmt40819310

comments

During the war he became an accomplished pilot and led an elite starfighter squadron. Before too long he was pressed to find a Jedi Master who could complete his training, eventually finding Yoda, who pushed him to learn faster than any apprentice ever had. Luke would need to be a fully fledged Jedi if he wished to help the Alliance defeat the emperor who was strong with the dark side of the Force.

Luke learned that his father, Anakin Skywalker, turned to the dark side and Luke was forced to face him and Emperor Palpatine to save the galaxy. Though he was lost to his injuries, Anakin was redeemed in the end after he helped destroy Palpatine, and Luke went on to become one of the Alliance’s greatest heroes. He helped bring down the Imperial remnants in the years following, and defeated the last one against Grand Admiral Thrawn and the dark Jedi Joruus C'baoth before being shipped off to a horror prison camp called Denouement.

Character's personality: Luke craves the new, the challenging, and the opportunity for growth above all else. He's restless and hates sitting still for more than five seconds. One might even call him impatient but it’s something he’s working on. A younger Luke was particularly bad in that area but through the years Luke has learned to temper it and to wait and listen for the right opportunities. He’s more even-tempered and collected now and is usually the first person to remain calm in a situation, even as he’s anxiously waiting to catch his eye on the next adventure.

He was raised in a very harsh and desolate environment. The demanding and toiling lifestyle he was brought up into taught him fierce bravery, independence, and resourcefulness. Luke may be an idealistic, naive dreamer but he was desensitized to violence and death at a very young age. He isn't easily shaken by such things and has surprisingly tough skin. Even a life of struggle and strife couldn't make a cynic out of Luke or crush his spirit, though he’s been through trauma that has subdued him and he’s taken on a more collected and reserved temperament. Despite it all, he's still endlessly sweet, earnest to a fault, and easily wears his heart on his sleeve.

Luke can be a bit of a daredevil and has a hard time turning down a challenge, sometimes overestimating his own chances or skills. He can accept change readily but has a knack for biting off more than he can chew and tends to charge in head-first. Luke is quite sharp and will readily accept responsibility for his actions, and when he's given a moment to think he's often a terrific tactical thinker. He continues to improve in this area as he becomes wiser and more experienced.

On the other hand, Luke also has a stubborn side when it comes to things he wants. He’ll let his own personal needs slide to keep the peace, but when he knows that something must get done, especially for the good of others, he refuses to back down until he sees it happen. Luke is an idealist through and through and usually has his head in the clouds. The things he fights for would seem far out of reach to others, but Luke doesn't let that discourage him. It's the people holding him down that are the biggest obstacles in his mind.

Although he sometimes stumbles over his words and makes an idiot of himself, his sweet nature means Luke makes friends easily. He also has a good sense of humor and gets along well with those he can joke around with, although if he becomes the butt of a joke it will raise his hackles and he'll become a bit defensive. He tends to be closest to those who are sensitive to his feelings and whom he knows he can rely upon, and he becomes rather quickly and easily attached to them. Luke’s friends are definitely his strongest asset and he would do just about anything for them. Despite his flaws, Luke is definitely the kind of person you'd want fighting on your side.

Character's skills/abilities/powers: Luke possesses the ability to use the Force. It's an energy field that exists everywhere, in all things. It gives him various psychic abilities such as precognition, telepathy, empathy, and telekinesis and it requires great focus and calm to use these abilities.

Because of his ancestry, Luke is especially strong in the Force and, though he's only been working on his skills for a few years, he already has the capabilities of a fully-fledged Jedi Knight which usually takes decades.

Luke is also a phenomenal pilot, mechanic, and possesses great leadership skills.

Any special equipment your character is bringing along? This includes weaponry, magic items, etc.: Only the green-bladed lightsaber that he built himself, and the clothes on his back.

Are you bringing your character to ten_fwd from another game? If you are, which game?: Yes, Denouement.

If you answered yes above, briefly summarize how they were changed by and what challenges they faced in the climate of their previous game(s): Upon arriving in Denouement, Luke was immediately pressed to find a way to escape, even when it seemed like there wasn't any. He worked himself to exhaustion until others convinced him to let it go for a while and take care of himself. It wasn’t something he could forget easily, and he took on the fates of every prisoner like a personal burden.

His military training and experience helped immensely, even through the bizarre things he’d never witnessed before. Strange hordes of monsters were released onto the town and Luke had to fight them off while faced with the question of why anyone would put them through it in the first place.

He struggled with the knowledge that there were people only wanting to cause pain and torment for entertainment or experimentation. One thing that helped him through it was his relationship with another prisoner. The two supported each other, even though they knew the attachment was risky.

Why do you want to play this character in Ten Forward, and what do you plan to do with them? The differences in advanced technology between Star Trek and Luke’s galaxy would cause interesting contrasts and might present an unusual sort of backwards learning curve for him. I’m also rather eager to see how he integrates with Starfleet. There could be interesting contrasts between his morals and theirs, presenting some rather juicy conflicts. Luke operates sort of fluidly, adapting his decisions to whatever’s best in the moment, and we all know Starfleet tends to have problems with characters like that. I think Luke will get along rather splendidly with certain canon characters for that reason, and possibly shakily with others.

He’d be fascinated by the new alien species and unfamiliar planets, and finding his friends and family on board (some of whom are dead in his canon-point) would just about bowl him over. There will no end to possibilities in this game.

Writing Sample #1: Here
Writing Sample #2 (optional): Here

comments
